Five Valleys Aparthotel - Information

Home from home

We've 15 stylish apartments to rent so why not make Five Valleys Aparthotel your home from home for a night, a week or a month.

Our apartments are all equipped with the same kitchens and style of decoration and feel. Here are some sample pictures for you. The main difference between the grades is the size.

Each has a kitchen and comfortable open plan living - cook for yourself or order in a takeaway, but you could also go out to the many pubs and restaurants in town or in the surrounding villages.

So what do we have….

  • Superior – Super king or twin with a bit more space
  • Standard – Super king, twin, king size bed or standard single with everything you need
  • Studio – The budget option (but there’s still everything you need)
  • Two-bedroom apartments – we can link two apartments to give you an extra bedroom. Please email if you’d like this option.
  • Each room is for two, with at least one person over 18. We have a futon for 1 child of 7 or under. If you're looking for more family space then perhaps linked rooms is for you. Please drop us an email.
  • Staying with friends or colleagues? Then let us know and we can ensure one of you has a large enough table to eat “family style”. There’s seating for 10 in apartment 2.
  • Parking and wifi? Of course.
  • Privacy (but CCTV coverage)

Where to start? The Cotswold Way passes within 1.5km of 5VA but it’s easy to see the views from the Cotswold Edge by driving onto Selsey, Rodborough or Minchinhampton Commons. Coaley Peak is stunning and easy for those who can’t walk far (and in summer on the weekends there is often an ice cream van).

How about Haresfield Beacon, only a short stroll from Standish Woods car park.

Walk / Golf

Painswick Beacon, with its amazing hill fort, spectacular views (only a short walk from a car park) and what I think of as a full sized “crazy” golf course folded through it, is only a few miles up the road and is one of the highest points in the Cotswolds. Even the most avid golfer will love this course as a change and challenge from the norm. But who wants normal! Go have fun.

Yes! You can bring your best friend with you, though they’ll need to be well behaved. We have 5 rooms which are dog friendly so book early. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. This is great walking country of course so we expect your pooch will be conked out after a day on the hills.

Road, MTB or just for a bit of a tootle? There is lots to choose from. Be aware that tackling some of the roads that go “straight up the Edge” is not for the faint hearted. You could always head out to the Vale of Berkley for some wonderful fast road riding, or Sustrans Route 45 beginning in Stonehouse in the Stroud Valley. This delightful traffic-free route follows the line of the old Midland Railway and provides a welcome alternative to local roads. It links into Route 41 next to the River Severn. There’s a bike store planned at 5VA, but for the moment please anticipate keeping your bike in your car. Bikes are not to be kept in the rooms.

You can rent a bike through The Bike Works. They also do spares and repairs. If you're coming for a longer stay you might like to speak to The Access Bike Project. It's just over the road and a great way to get onto 2 wheels for not a lot.

Days out

Stroud is right in the heart of the Cotswolds, so there are beautiful towns and villages all around. You might also like:

  • Museum in the Park The history of Stroud, with dinosaur bones, historical paintings and one of the world’s first lawnmowers. Free entry.
  • Slimbridge Wetland Centre - With experiences to suit all ages offering access to a huge variety of wildlife.
  • Berkeley Castle - The oldest building in the country to be inhabited by the same family who built it.
  • Westonbirt National Arboretum Only 12 miles or so to this national treasure. It’s not all about the trees, there are concerts and events too so 5VA is perfect accommodation for your event weekend.
  • Gloucester - The cathedral city with historic docks and plenty of shopping.

Fitness and relaxation

  • Stratford Park Leisure Centre - Gym, 2 swimming pools, tennis, squash, classes, sauna and steam room.
  • Calcot Spa - Perhaps a spa, ½ day, full day or even twilight. A little bit of indulgence but all in a very good cause, you.
  • Anytime Gym - All the usual kit and lots more including great staff on hand, virtual fitness classes, 24 hour access and free parking, all only a walk away (or a warm up jog).

Food and drink

There are lots to choose from in town:

And then there are those out and about...

Domino's Pizza and McDonalds are both near the cinema, but Fat Toni’s Pizza is round the corner and a local legend. For fish and chips try Simpsons on Bedford Street, it’s tucked away and a bit of a find.

You could walk into town for a quiet pint or some music.

Or a little further afield:

Within a short distance there are festivals and events throughout the year. From local beer festivals to international events. Plus hill climbing, cheese rolling, art, music - it’s a very busy place.

Wedding venues

We’ll be looking forward to greeting many guests who come from far and wide for that special day. Local venues include:

Please note that the premises and businesses above have not been visited by the staff of 5VA and we cannot therefore guarantee either the quality or service that you might receive when there. You’ll need to satisfy yourselves that this is a venue you wish to try. All feedback is welcome.

We really loved our stay here! A five star choice! Simon gave us a warm welcome and good local advice. The apartment was quiet, clean and comfortable - well equipped and very spacious for two of us. Good value indeed.

Spur of the moment decision to travel half way between Leicester and Torquay and booked it. On arrival the outside looked newly painted and was in a great location. It is keyless entry and on entering my apartment found it to be spacious and well equipped. The kitchen/diner/lounge had everything you needed and more. The bedroom was spacious along with the bathroom. I had paid a hell of a lot more money for 4 star hotels that were not a patch on this place. The service from Simon was second to none and would definitely recommend it as a must if you are in the area. Walk into the centre of Stroud is about 15mins. Thank you

What an amazing place, lovely space with well equipped kitchen stocked with some basics, and lovely bathroom, and bedroom, really easy process for arriving and getting in (email with PIN for door lock), good recycling bins including food waste caddy, and situated a few minutes from town. Only opened recently and hope it is a real success as I will definitely want to stay here again.

This is must stay when you visit Stroud as it's location is just outside the centre and so a short walk to shops/restaurants. Very spacious and well equipped self catering apartments newly decorated.

SIMON was great in getting back to me and asking if everything was OK, after phoning him for access information. The room was excellent, clean, and with all facilities. Better than a recent 'Ibis' in London I stayed in. Would happily book again.

Love this place. Had a very comfortable night and even decided to stay another night. Manager is very friendly and helpful. Room and kitchen spotlessly clean with everything you could need. Would recommend.
